Matt Jordan
Partner & Co-founder

Matt Jordan has more than 15 years of diverse and high-impact experience in clean energy program development and leadership, stakeholder relations, research and analysis, campaign management, and strategic communications. He’s a leading thinker, advocate and practitioner on issues related to the role of technological innovation, quality assurance and energy efficiency in clean energy access – a front line in the battle against climate change and global poverty – as well as the broader applications of energy efficiency to global sustainable development efforts. Beyond his leadership in sustainable development, Matt has researched, consulted on, and written about a wide variety of clean energy issues, including green labeling, building sector decarbonization, innovative financing, greenhouse gas cap-and-trade schemes, energy efficiency credit markets, and economic development through strategic renewable energy deployment.

Between late 2012 and early 2018, Matt envisioned, developed and led CLASP’s pioneering Clean Energy Access portfolio. This large, diverse and technically-rigorous suite of programs works to ensure that high-quality, energy-efficient products and services are the default in global energy access efforts—and that energy efficiency is a primary strategy and resource in sustainable development. Due to Matt’s vision and leadership, CLASP now applies its technical, programmatic and analytical competencies to a variety of technology areas – from clean cooking and off-grid appliances to solar lighting and home kits – and works to fill information asymmetries, develop crucial market and policy infrastructure, and facilitate faster, smarter action throughout the clean energy access market ecosystem. The programs Matt developed at CLASP attracted more than $36,000,000 in bilateral, multi-lateral, and philanthropic funding during his tenure, and have led to novel and highly-constructive programmatic and/or funding partnerships with leading institutions like UK DFID, USAID, IFC/World Bank, GIZ, Shell Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, Good Energies Foundation, and many others.

Prior to joining CLASP, Matt was OurEnergyPolicy.org’s Program Director, where he was responsible for programmatic and strategic initiatives as well as day-to-day operational management. Matt conceived and implemented each of OurEnergyPolicy.org’s programs from the ground up, building the organization’s energy policy discourse and crowdsourcing platform into a favorite among Washington energy professionals, journalists, and policymakers. Prior to his work on energy and climate, Matt worked in political advocacy and campaign management. Most notably, he managed grassroots and patient coalition mobilization for California's Proposition 71, a successful ballot initiative that unlocked $3 billion for stem cell research. After the initiative's victory, he was a founding staff member of The Alliance for Stem Cell Research, an NGO focused on patient coalition development and mobilization.

Matt lives in Atlanta, with his partner and two young children. He’s an avid Ultimate player and reader, and wants to writes The Great American Novel but does little about it. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Colgate University and a Masters of Public Policy Analysis from the University of California at Berkeley.
